Double Standard

My take on this issue of disqualification of Ms. Timoteo as a candidate for the State House.

This is simply a double standard by attorney general’s office and our executive branch of government.

In fact, Ms. Kunimoto, the deputy attorney general, is currently my opponent in court on Ms. Hanabusa’s disqualification as candidate for governor, (in violation of our “resign to run” mandate, Article II, Section 7 of our state constitution).

Simply, I felt sad as a citizen of Hawaii, because I know the deputy attorney general is now busy fighting against me, trying to protect or support Ms. Hanabusa’s illegality as a gubernatorial candidate.

What an irony!

If the attorney general truly wants to protect our law and constitution this precisely, why not also disqualify Ms. Hanabusa?

After all, it is Gov. Ige’s fault, having this double standard, no matter what political repercussions he may fear from Ms. Hanabusa’s case.

I hope I understand this…

Gov. Ige and Lt. Gov. Tsutsui

Gov. Ige and Lt. Gov. Tsutsui.

Why didn’t they get along?

One reason might have been due to the fact that they ran separately in the race, but not as a team.

Then, why is the system like this?

My take is that establishments and special interests might have wanted in this way; because it might have been easier for them to control our politics and politicians, putting them more under their power.

Just like in the part time schedule in legislature, they might have also purposely wanted our politicians to be more vulnerable for temptations from special interests.

We may need to break and change this system (e.g. by having them run as a team and by changing their term to a full time schedule accordingly with salary increase); so that, our public servants can delve more into serving the general public.

Aloha.
