Civil Beat – Reader Rep: Why I Write About The Local Media
Thanks, Mr. Oppegaard.
I want to much agree with you; but, I have had different and negative experience with Civil Beat than yours.
Unfortunately, your article is still subjective;but we need more of objective opinion or news article based on how you teach your students at UH, (based on professional journalistic standard).
Simply, (instead of publishing this kind of subjective article in the name of readers rep?), in order to gain wide and unequivocal support from public, Civil Beat may need to announce and publish the objective statement or blueprint, such as how they can avoid the possible, current, and future conflicts of interest, especially their own conflicts, as specific as possible. (And, they may also need to state such conflicts, if possible, on each, e.g. esp. sociopolitical news article, just like on some higher courts’ documents).
Note: Stating a promise thru their readers’ rep or just placing SPJ ethical standards on their page may not do much, except as superficial shows or public stunts.
